Amazing Grace series

The "Outside In" exhibition is run each year by the Arts Program of  St Vincents Private Hospital, Brisbane. Artists can apply to hang their themed work during a 5/6 month term, and this could be at either St Vincents at Kangaroo Point, or Holy Spirit Hospital, Northside (Chermside).   Commission on sales donated to the arts program.   The exhibition is open the public and purchases can be made via myself or the hospital. I have been fortunate to have been selected twice to exhibit, and pleased to note I am successful for a third year of the second half of 2019.

When considering what I would paint as my part of the Outside In exhibition, I was very conscious of where my paintings would hang. Upon finding out that it was to be outside the Intensive Care Unit, I knew I had to be even more thoughtful of my message.
The first painting I did for this exhibition, was actually the no. 2 in this series, and I had no thoughts to doing a series at all. I knew I wanted this particular verse from Amazing Grace, and that came from my recent baptism in 2017. When I had completed it, one of my daughters suggested I do a series, and incorporate the star shape/yellow warm area of similar meaning in each painting somehow. So I thought on it, and listened for God's instruction, and promptly looked up the poem Amazing Grace. I found a webpage with 7 verses, so I set about creating an artwork for each verse. When I got to about no.4, I found another website that had 13 verses of the original poem!!! I thought no way do I have time to do all those, so will stick to the 7 verses, and actually finished the series a matter of days before hanging. I absolutely loved doing a series, it was both challenging and rewarding to look at each verse and contemplate on how to convey that message appropriately and sensitively. I hope I have.

Currently 3 of these paintings remain unsold (1, 4 and 7), feel free to contact me to discuss.
